A home’s material palette plays a starring role in its interior design—a tactile mix of textures can contribute to a cosy and cohesive look, or even create a focal point within a space. When equipped with the latest innovations in surface manufacturing, these materials can also contribute to the overall hygiene and cleanliness of your home.

Hafary’s collection of surface materials with antibacterial benefits is an effective first line of defence when it comes to minimising the spread of bacteria and germs. With over 5,000 material varieties sourced from across the globe, the local material supplier’s expansive collection features a diverse array of natural stone, porcelain and mosaic tiles, as well as wood f looring and other complementary fittings.

Here, we reveal more about the Antolini Azerobact plus and Panariagroup Protect collections, which feature a protective layer that inhibits the growth of bacteria; these collections are available at Hafary Gallery and The Stone Gallery by Hafary.

SAFE AND SOUND

The stone surfaces from Italian manufacturer Antolini incorporate Azerobact plus, a protective treatment that shields natural stones from the proliferation of bacteria. The antibacterial layer does not affect the tactility of marble and natural stone, enabling these surfaces to be used in the kitchen and dining room. Treated surfaces are also protected against UV rays, minimising the chances of colour degradation. Cleaning is a breeze; simply wipe the countertop with gentle soap and water to disinfect it.

Other collections to consider include Protect, a range of high-performance f loor and wall tiles with antimicrobial properties. Developed by Italian manufacturer Panariagroup in conjunction with Microban, the antimicrobial layer uses silver as a key component and can be applied on ceramic tiles.

Silver ions are assimilated into the surface during a high-heat industrial firing process, creating a powerful shield that can eliminate up to

99.9 per cent of bacterial growth, while ensuring the durability and easy maintenance of the ceramic surfaces. Besides applications in luxury homes around the world, these ceramic tiles are also suitable for high-traffic areas such as schools, shopping malls, restaurants, gyms and hotels.
