SET THE STAGE
EDG Design creates a dramatic visual feast for modern Indian restaurant Firangi Superstar
With its sumptuous blend of patterned wallpaper, jewel tones and velvet seats, guests will feel transported into a realm of wonder at Firangi Superstar. The brainchild of senior director Michael Goodman and lead designer Piya Thamchariyawat of EDG Design, the interiors of the 93-seat modern Indian dining venue reference the old-world charm of locomotive travel with dramatic vignettes and glamorous furnishings.
Each dining zone has a unique look: the journey begins at the Officer’s Club at the entrance, a bar area designed as a handsome whiskey-and-cigar room set against dark cabinetry, teal green shelves
and exuberant wallpaper from Santorus that feature peacock feather motifs. This space leads to the adjacent main salon, which is decorated in crimson hues and with various wall-hung paraphernalia and artworks. It is followed by the Old Railway Room, a private dining area designed in the style of train carriages.
Surprises abound in every corner as part of the maximalist design scheme, including a Bengal tiger mural by Singaporean visual artist Traseone. Other interesting nooks include the Elephant Palace and the Jungle Lodge; both dining areas named after the patterned wallcoverings in these rooms.
