For home gourmands and culinary whizzes, the kitchen is certainly one of the most important areas in their abodes. It is a space that ought to be kept sleek and neat, and specially tailored to each household’s needs so the owners can prepare dishes with ease.

When tasked by Swiss luxury brand V-zug to craft an inspiring open-plan kitchen concept that fulfils all of these requirements and more, homegrown studio

SS + D rose to the challenge with an elegant, modern design that beautifully incorporates the manufacturer’s premium appliances from its Excellence Line, as well as other notable products.

DELICIOUS DELIGHTS

SS + D principal designer Sam Loh, who worked on the project with fellow principal Wu Zhen Phang, designed a light-filled kitchen that caters to a young couple who enjoy cooking together during their weekends. Here, a sleek kitchen island takes centre stage; it’s where food can be prepared comfortably and dishes plated to stunning effect; it also serves as a spot where the owners can enjoy drinks with their guests after a hearty dinner.

“We understand the importance of having a f luid and dynamic kitchen layout for homeowners who love to cook,” says Loh. “So, we designed a large island with a sink for the food preparation zone, located opposite the stove area with the gas hobs, and designed custom cabinetry to house the appliances next to the kitchen counter.”

A light colour scheme was also chosen to make the space bright and welcoming. “We selected a cool white colour as the main finish to make the kitchen look more spacious and elegant,” says Wu.

The minimalist design of the cabinetry and appliances, coupled with the ample storage options, also ensures the space is uncluttered and sleek. Adds Wu: “We love how the V-zug kitchen appliances are designed harmoniously with the same finishes, without being visually distracting; even the hood can blend in seamlessly with the interior.”

ALL IN ONE

Careful consideration was also given to matching the finishes of the V-zug appliances with the interior design. The appliances selected included V-zug’s Excellence Line of ovens and combi-steam cookers, Coffee-centre coffee machine, and a handle-free Winecooler.

“The finishes of the V-zug kitchen appliances can be applied to our interior design seamlessly, striking a perfect balance between function and aesthetics,” says

Loh, admiring the streamlined appearance of the Swiss-made appliances. “We proposed laminates in a black mirrored finish for the full-height cabinet above the ovens and the kitchen island to match the appliances’ door fronts.”

By making the kitchen the focal point of the home, the designers have certainly created a space that impresses, while fulfilling the needs of the owners. “We pride ourselves on attaining a harmonious balance between aesthetics and practicality,” adds Wu. “The appliances from V-zug have a minimalist design that can fit into any type of interior; we also have an upcoming project which will also incorporate some V-zug products in a kitchen with a contemporary design.”
