The home is the heart of inspiration for this office conceptualised by Designworx Interior Consultant

Our homes evoke feelings of cosiness, comfort and hospitality. Similarly, Designworx Interior Consultant often seeks to incorporate such qualities into its office projects to elevate these traditionally staid settings. “As more people work from home these days, the lines between the office and the home are becoming blurred. Office spaces that feel like a home environment enhance the work setting by creating a familial bond among staff and mutual trust with clients,” says Terri Tan, design director of the firm.

Through the years, the design practice’s various residential and commercial projects have demonstrated its expertise in crafting spaces that make an impact. Clients return to the award-winning company knowing that their properties are in safe hands. A case in point is a client for whom the firm had worked on several projects: she tasked Designworx Interior Consultant to craft a new office where she could hold discussions with clients in an elegant yet cosy setting. Since her existing office in the same building already had a conference room, a similar space in this unit was unnecessary.

“We reimagined this new meeting space as a home where she could meet her clients for cosy discussions and a private dining

experience, or just chill out over drinks,” says Tan. Before beginning, the team determined how the client and her associates would move through the different zones in the space and paid attention to the smallest details, such as where visitors might want to charge their phones.

“All the existing partitions and carpeting were removed, so we literally started with a blank canvas,” says Tan. The open-concept, 1,000sqft space features an entrance foyer for the lift. A dark-wood divider with display shelves and storage units, fitted with a pair of stunning glass wall sconces, sets the tone for the rest of the space.

The living area is a richly textured zone featuring neutral colours and natural textures such as leather, fabrics and rattan. The design team avoided using furnishings typically associated with commercial offices; instead, they went for the comfort and style of pieces from well-known home furnishing brands. These include the Muuto Outline sofa in leather, and Gamma Arredamenti Cocoon swivel armchair and Charlotte Bag magazine holder.

The designers often use custom lighting pieces to elevate the ambience of many of their projects, and this personalised approach is evident in the dining area here.

A TV mounted on a divider screens off the powder room behind it, while a kitchenette with a fridge and a wine chiller ensures that there is ample room for storing the most delectable vintages.

Behind the divider are picture ledges on which the client can display her daughter’s art pieces. As her business partners move through the different spaces, they also get to know these personal aspects of her life. Thanks to the firm’s mindful approach to design, this office and meeting space certainly exudes the warmth and rapport of home.
