GARDEN STATE
Built with biophilic design in mind, Capitaspring features a sculptural form and verdant spaces inspired by the restorative power of nature
As Singapore is often called the Garden City, it’s quite apt that the country’s newest landmark indeed takes that name to heart. Situated in the Central Business District, Capitaland’s new integrated development, Capitaspring, is the latest modern architectural marvel in Singapore. Designed by Danish architectural practice Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and Italian innovation and design firm Carlo Ratti Associati, the 280m-tall skyscraper also marks BIG’S first project in the city-state.
The tower makes a striking first impression with an 18m-tall alcove at its entrance, which is peppered with sculptural artworks and greenery; this verdant area is designed to offer usable social spaces for the community. The building’s striking aluminium facade is defined by a dynamic interplay of orthogonal pin-striped fins, which allow glimpses of the lush tropical plants incorporated throughout the building. These include the Green Oasis, a spacious promenade area that’s open to the public. Spanning four levels that are connected by spiral walkways, this expansive 42,900 sq ft landscaped garden features a staggering array of over 38,000 plants.
The building’s rooftop garden is not to be missed. Slated to open in the second quarter of 2022, the
Sky Garden on level 51 is set to become Singapore’s tallest publicly accessible observatory deck, offering picturesque bird’s-eye views of the city. It also features a 5,000 sq ft urban farm with herbs and vegetables from Edible Garden City. Other highlights include the Citadines Raff les Place Singapore serviced apartments with interiors designed by Takenouchi Webb, along with meeting halls, a multi-purpose amphitheatre, exercise areas, Sol & Luna, a new Latin-european garden-themed café by F&B and lifestyle group 1-Group, as well as two other upcoming restaurants.
