Founded in 1998, the awardwinning studio is helmed by design director Sarah Tham. Combining effortless style with practical solutions, the firm offers a full suite of architectural and interior design services, from space planning and design conceptualisation to project management. The team prides itself on customer satisfaction and accountability for every assignment, which spans a variety of residential and commercial projects including luxury hotels, stylish apartments and cosy landed houses.

“The clients wanted an elegant home with a western outlook mixed with eastern elements”

demarcates the staircase from the living space and houses the family’s porcelainware. The cantilever staircase itself is a modern exercise in steel, glass and wood, which complements the classic American look of the living space.

The living room connects to an outdoor terrace, where the wife, who loves greenery, can relax with a good book and a cup of tea.

The garden not only provides refreshing, verdant views, but also acts as a natural visual divider between this home and the neighbour’s abode.

On the second floor are three bedrooms, including the minimalist master bedroom, which features a similar design theme to the living room and a comfortable bay window seat for lounging on lazy weekends. This space continues the restful off-white palette, featuring box mouldings on the walls and cabinetry that maintain the home’s European influences.

The other two rooms are each used by the husband and the wife as their respective home offices. Both rooms could not appear more different from each other, yet are perfectly tailored to suit their user’s needs. In a departure from the home’s overall light-hued look, the husband’s den is infused with chocolatey tones and dark wood cabinetry and panelling.

This space, which features a vintage chest of drawers and a Chesterfield leather armchair, sports a masculine aesthetic and an English feel. It is where the husband kicks back with

a drink while he listens to music and winds down after a busy day.

The wife’s study also features a generous use of wood, but is brighter due to natural light entering through a full-height window. This cosy corner is done up in a modern Asian theme, as the wife was “influenced by Chinese culture from a young age”, shares the designer.

In this room, an armchair and footstool are upholstered in a rich red fabric with a porcelainvase motif, while a bespoke artwork by a Korean artist that’s sprinkled with gold dust clads the sliding doors of a walnut cabinet with matching metallic inlays. When opened, the doors reveal a niche housing the wife’s gift-wrapping corner, complete with a plethora of wrapping paper options and ribbons. This room also features a Barbara Barry desk, at which she enjoys doing Chinese painting and calligraphy.

The six-month project exemplifies a cohesive design concept that encompasses different styles thanks to Tham’s thoughtful planning. She happily reveals that the owners and their visitors adore the home. “Their guests even say that the house is so cosy, they don’t ever want to leave!” she laughs.
