STRANGER THINGS
Be enthralled by the works of French ceramic artist Agnès Debizet, seen here in the salt flats of Salinde-giraud in Camargue, France. This photo series was conceptualised during the Covid-19 pandemic by the Mélissa Paul Gallery in London and the Galerie Yves Gastou in Paris, which represent Debizet; the gallerists aimed to highlight the surreal qualities of Debizet’s works outside the typical white-cube gallery setting. Pieces from Debizet’s archives were picked to echo the otherworldly qualities of the environment, alongside specially created works inspired by the enigmaticlooking locale.
“We said to ourselves that people were yearning for the outdoors, for the chance to dream again,” says Mélissa Paul, founder of Mélissa Paul Gallery. Victor Gastou, founder of Galerie Yves Gastou, concurs: “You feel like you’re on another planet or in a desert, where there’s absolutely no trace of civilisation... Her work looks almost like it’s grown out of the earth in [these] surrealist settings.” Visit galerie-melissa-paul.com and galerieyvesgastou.com for more information.
