ALL DECKED OUT
Steamships set sail around the 1830s, linking Europe and the Americas. Here, among trunks that would have held extensive wardrobe changes for fancy seafarers’ activities through the day, we see the first Steamer Bag created in 1901 that belonged to Gaston-louis Vuitton. This canvas bag would be retrieved from a trunk, unfolded and hung up by its handle to serve as a laundry bag for used clothes. In case you missed the resemblance, the contemporary versions are also getting a tan on the deck.
