The reflective quality of crystal is the inspiration behind Royal Selangor’s Crystalline collection, a collaboration with award-winning designer Jarrod Lim, who tells Annabel Tan the story behind the pieces

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, designer Jarrod Lim honed his craft in Europe, most notably in the studios of Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola in Milan and one of the UK’S top design and furniture manufacturers, SCP, in London. His designs have garnered many awards, including the Pinnacle Award USA, the A&D Trophy Award and the Young Designer of the Year, Australia. But it was his win at the Singapore Furniture Design Award in 2010 that made him realise the opportunities available in Southeast Asia, and that Singapore was the best location to set up base. He has since established his own design practice here and worked on many brand projects, including his latest collaboration with Royal Selangor for the Crystalline collection. With its pieces made from highly polished pewter and natural black walnut wood, the collection takes inspiration from the reflective quality of crystal—the way light bounces off its sleek surface, making it shine and sparkle. The collection comprises a pair of tea lights, salt and pepper shakers, candle stands, a jug, a bud vase and candelabras faceted like crystals. Lim tells us more.
