Suit Yourself

-

I grew up in an environment where you never left the house looking anything less than presentable. My parents were always dressed properly, no matter the occasion If there is one style commandment that Re:erth CEO Shinji Yamasaki lives by, it is that every man needs a good suit

instripes, pinwale corduroy and a good tailor are Re:erth CEO Shinji Yamasaki’s must-haves and the secrets to his well-fitted wardrobe. While these are the remains from his New York banker days, Shinji’s love for suits goes much further back. The value of dressing well was instilled in him by his parents when he was a young lad, and he bought his first suit with his father at the age of 18—an off-the-rack option from a Japanese men’s fashion warehouse, in pinstripes obviously. Naturally, this old-school approach to style remains ingrained in Shinji even to this day. The 33-year-old understands that being stylish isn’t about having an excess of options. At least half of his wardrobe has been handed down to him by his father, with the only exceptions being the occasional investment pieces that he purchases such as his luxury men’s dress shoes from Crockett & Jones and JM Weston. He says, “These shoes last and never go out of style. I still have and wear the shoes I bought in my first year of university.” An avid traveller, Shinji regularly shuttles between Singapore and his native Japan for business. While he has his travel wardrobe whittled down to a science, he does make it a point to bring a fresh suit for every meeting he attends. “I don’t like wearing the same suits when I’m meeting people, even if it’s a completely different group. Mentally, it just doesn’t feel right. So, if I have two meetings, I’ll bring two suits. If it’s three meetings, I might bring two suits, a blazer and a pair of slacks to change it up.”
