Montblanc and Charlotte Casiraghi design a capsule jewellery collection
Fashion darling and runway success Kaia Gerber follows in the footsteps of her supermodel mother, Cindy Crawford, by becoming the face of Omega for its new De Ville Trésor collection. Nicolette Wong reports
Kaia gerber is the hottest It girl of the moment—after all, she has already appeared on a number of magazine covers, starred in countless campaigns, and even opened the Chanel spring/summer show 2018. It helps, of course, that she is the daughter of famed supermodel Cindy Crawford, and she has most certainly inherited her mother’s charisma in front of the camera. In 2017, both Kaia and her brother Presley became Omega’s brand ambassadors, joining their mother, who has been part of the brand family since 1995. “I love Omega because I grew up with it and I feel like I’ve always been surrounded by everyone there,” Kaia enthused at the watch’s launch in Berlin in May. “We’ve been family ever since I can remember.” Presley can be seen on billboards with the already-existing Omega Railmaster, but Kaia, who turns 17 this September, is the face of an entirely new watch line for ladies—the Omega De Ville Trésor. The Trésor collection is a modern take on the classic ladies’ watch. It has a round case in 36 or 39mm, with a dial featuring elongated Roman numerals that enhance its contemporary aesthetic. The caseback is also mirrored, for any lipstick emergencies. The collection’s most distinctive feature, however, is the ergonomically curved lugs set with diamonds. The precious stones are an essential part of the watch’s aesthetic, rendering it both feminine and modern at the same time, thanks to their asymmetrical setting. According to an interview with Omega president and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann in the South China Morning Post, “This watch will not appear, ever, without any diamonds.” As the old adage goes: diamonds are a girl’s best friend. The initial release of the Trésor collection features nine models, all in either
stainless steel or Omega’s trademarked Sedna gold. All the models come equipped with a quartz movement. Says Aeschlimann, “I envisioned this watch specifically with a quartz movement. I think the result wouldn’t have been that nice with a mechanical movement.” He has good reason for thinking so. The quartz movement has allowed the Trésor to have incredibly svelte proportions, with the 39mm version measuring 9.75mm in thickness, and the 36mm version coming in at 8.85mm. And as Aeschlimann says, the result is really quite stunning—the watches feel incredibly light and sleek, and the curved lugs are designed to suit even the daintiest of wrists. The greatest beauty of the Trésor, in our opinion, is its versatility. It is casual enough to be paired with a plain white T-shirt and jeans, but dressy enough to rule the boardroom or accompany you to the bar. We know that because the Trésor advertising campaign, which was shot by renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh, has Kaia dressed for precisely those situations. The Trésor looks perfectly at home in all of them. “For my job, I get to wear beautiful clothes, but I would say I feel the most comfortable in jeans and sneakers,” Kaia enthused. “What I love about the Trésor is you can wear it with both formal and casual outfits. It has so much class and style.”
