SNOW GALA 2018
The year 2018 is a watershed year for the advancement of women. In Singapore, we celebrate gamechangers such as the first female CID chief Florence Chua; the first female Designer of the Year, DP Architects’ Angelene Chan, at the President’s Design Award 2018; and the first female president in Halimah Yacob. Gamechangers is aptly the theme for this year’s Snow (Say No to the Oppression of Women) Gala at Capella Singapore in September, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Singapore Committee for UN Women. Its new president Georgette Tan noted that for every woman who has made an advancement, there are thousands more who have not found their voice, highlighting the ongoing refugee crisis in Myanmar. As such, 20 per cent from the over $500,000 raised that evening will help the female refugees held at Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, with the rest going towards supporting the self-funded, non-profit organisation’s programmes and initiatives.
