Diamonds are not the only thing that come in a little blue box. Nicolette Wong sniffs out Tiffany & Co’s new Eau de Parfum Intense

1. THE LEGACY

Tiffany & Co has long been one of the foremost jewellers in the world, ever since its founding in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany. The maison strives to produce pieces that are both contemporary and timeless, and these have been worn by tastemakers the world over, from American society mainstays such as the Astors and the Vanderbilts, to silver screen stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Gal Gadot.

2. THE INSPIRATION

Capturing the brightness of Tiffany’s signature gems and the weight of its heritage is no easy task, one that fell to master perfumer Daniela Andrier of Givaudan, the world’s leading flavours and fragrance company. She took inspiration from the iris flower, which has played a significant role in Tiffany’s history. It was an iris brooch with demantoid garnet blossoms and Montana sapphires that earned Tiffany the grand prize at the Paris Exposition in 1900.

3. THE PROCESS

The iris butter used in the fragrance is harvested only in July and August every year, and is extracted using hydrodistillation to ensure a bright and rich floral note that lasts longer on the skin. The bottle recalls the 82 facets of the famous 128.54-carat yellow Tiffany diamond from 1878. Naturally, the perfume also comes in Tiffany’s signature little blue box.

4. THE SCENT

The Tiffany Eau de Parfum Intense is a more powerful concoction than the house’s original Eau de Parfum. The scent is musky and floral, but warm and sensual. Top notes of mandarin leaf and pink peppercorn add a hint of brightness to the elegant powdery heart notes of iris flower, which are stronger and deeper in this scent than in its predecessor. Base notes of warm amber and sweet vanillalike benzoin ground the scent as it is worn throughout the day.
