oming in close after the annual Singapore Tatler Ball in terms of logistical madness is the yearly Asia’s Most Stylish cover shoot, which also involves our regional sister titles. During the process, one mainly survives on coffee, essential oils, and very little sleep. This year, we flew to Macau with our cover star, Georgia Lee, the recipient of the Singapore Tatler Award for Style 2018. After a five-hour journey (four of them by aeroplane, and another hour by helicopter), we stood in front of the Morpheus hotel, one of Macau’s latest properties, designed by the late renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Since we were tight on time, we headed straight to the presidential suite where the eight ladies would get dressed and dolled up for the photo shoot. For Georgia alone, we had five full racks of the latest fashion threads and an extensive array of shoes. “This feels like the behind the scenes of the Miss Universe competition,” joked one of Georgia’s assistants as the rest of the ladies and their entourage streamed into the suite with their own racks. Introductions were friendly but brief due to our tight schedule. The tension in the room even threatened to boil over when one of the ladies was heard struggling to fit into her dress. Georgia, ever the consummate professional, took in everything quietly. It was our crew’s second time working with her—the first being the June 2017 cover in Jiuzhaigou, China—and we can safely say that she is every stylist’s dream. Georgia neither questions nor demands anything, and leaves the team to create what it has envisioned. “When you agree to a photo shoot, you should fully entrust yourself to the creative team and support their vision,” she explained. “I also like the idea of seeing myself through the eyes of another person.” When everyone gathered for the group photo with all eight of Asia’s Most Stylish women, it was exactly at this moment that the pageant spirit was really palpable. And what a beautiful sight it truly was.
