Tatler Singapore

IF YOU CAN MAKE IT HERE…

This month, we head to the Big Apple to spend some time with three scions

-

How do we roll during a Singapore Tatler shoot in New York City? First, we fly non-stop on Singapore Airlines business class to make sure we arrive fresh and ready to take on the Big Apple. Then, we piled into a bus spilling with Louis Vuitton, Prada, Valentino and Gucci threads, and more shoes than anyone could wear in a month. And there was also a car with two security guards following our van, carrying Bvlgari high jewellery pieces worth more than a million dollars. As the Tatler crew, together with cover stars Brandon and Julien Leo, and Mae Tan, hopped from Brooklyn to different spots all over Manhattan, a fantastic soundtrack was played in the background. The cover trio kept everyone’s spirits energised by playing DJ, lining up the best road trip tunes from the likes of American rapper A$AP Rocky and South Korean singer-songwriter Dean. Brandon and Julien, the identical twin sons of entrepreneurs Tina Tan-leo and Lionel Leo, have been studying and pursuing music in New York for the last two years. Mae, the daughter of Dave Tan, who heads up Richard Mille in Asia, is getting ready to move to the Big Apple this August in a bid to be more independent, and hopefully study at the same time. Read our cover story with the three scions on page 118. And we found the perfect photographers, too. Behind the lens were Singaporean duo Caleb Lim and Gladys Ng—collectively Caleb & Gladys— who moved to the city in 2017, and has so much in common with our cover stars. The shoot started at the foot of the Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn, and ended at the rooftop of Brandon and Julien’s apartment at sunset—spots showcasing the beauty of the city in entirely different ways, and both times, reminding us how enthralling New York City can be.
