The key to maintaining skin’s vitality lies in just 0.2 per cent of its cells, according to Dior Skincare, and it has just the formula to rejuvenate them
Stem cells—they are one of the biggest trends in beauty today, but do you really know how they relate to your skin or are you blindly buying into all the hype around it? These wonder cells are known for their unique ability to divide and produce new body tissues, which spells great possibilities for medical use in repairing other cells that are damaged by disease.
But how does this translate to benefits for the beauty industry? Some beauty brands use plant-derived stem cell extracts in their products, which purportedly have the same regenerative effects on our skin’s cells. But while these ingredients may truly have some anti-ageing benefits, it has yet to be scientifically traced to the same regenerative behaviour that is seen in human stem cells. In other words, you are likely to have paid for a moisturiser that is really the same as another anti-ageing cream that isn’t marketed with a “stem cell” label and probably costs a whole lot less.
Dior Skincare, however, has gone in another direction to tap on the knowledge currently known about stem cells by studying how they change over time and affect our skin. The skincare brand is clearly way ahead in stem cell research, having started studying cells 30 years ago and spent 20 years delving into stem cells in particular.
The result is a major discovery: stem cells exist in very limited numbers in the skin, making up just 0.2 per cent of the cells in it. Contrary to what was thought, stem cells don’t decrease in number over time, but they do decrease in energy potential. This decrease goes hand in hand with the decline in all cellular functions and the overall vitality of the face. These findings form the foundation that has led to the creation of Dior’s new Capture Totale skincare line, Capture Totale C.E.L.L. Energy.
Dior’s answer to restoring the energy and regenerative power of these precious cells lies in four blooms— Chinese jasmine, white lily, Chinese peony and Madagascan longoza flower—which have been chosen specifically from over 1,667 possible ingredients for their extraordinary regenerative capabilities. They are combined in one powerful complex that is the force behind the new Capture Totale C.E.L.L. Energy range.
Fronting this new line is the aptly named
Super Potent Serum that targets every sign of ageing. Besides the floral complex, it is also enriched with an exclusive, next‑generation hyaluronic acid that boasts enhanced penetration into skin and longevity in terms of its reaction on it.
From observing the results on 1,700 women who have used the serum, the brand says that skin will appear suppler and wrinkles are visibly smoothed instantly upon application. A week of continued use will bring about improvement in radiance, while the serum’s plumping effect intensifies over time for naturally fuller and firmer skin. The jury may still be out on whether it works for everyone else, but giving the product such a promising name certainly shows Dior’s confidence in its efficacy.
A complete regimen is also available: the Capture Totale C.E.L.L. Energy skincare line also includes a cleanser, a serum-lotion hybrid meant for conditioning the skin post-cleanse, as well as the Firming and Wrinkle‑correcting Creme and the similarly named Eye Creme.
