GOOD INTENTIONS
Meet the other four Rolex Awards for Enterprise 2021 laureates
FELIX BROOKS-CHURCH
The American social entrepreneur wants to tackle malnutrition, an affliction that affects two billion people globally. His project brought him to Tanzania, where he developed and patented the “dosifier”. The device doses flour with important nutrients. It is lightweight, affordable and can be installed even in the most remote small mills across the region.
LUIZ ROCHA
Little is known about mesophotic reefs. These diverse marine ecosystems are thus often forgotten or neglected by legislators. The Brazilian marine biologist will explore, study and protect the mesophotic reefs of the Maldives. He hopes to discover more species of marine life and collect data on the changing conditions and temperatures of these reefs.
GINA MOSELEY
Moseley’s project lies in the treacherous caves of northern Greenland. Through such exploration and studies, the British climate researcher and her team hope to gain insight into climate change in the Arctic. One way to understand the effects of climate change is by studying the chemical history of caves, through the presence of calcite mineral deposits.
RINZIN PHUNJOK LAMA
The Nepalese scientist and environmentalist hopes to overcome the threats to the biodiversity indigenous to Nepal, as well as strive to improve the lives of the people of Humla, an indigenous community. Through his project, he wants to train and promote local leadership in conservation efforts among the indigenous people and attempt to promote ecotourism.
