From Q with Love
With No Time to Die hitting cinemas on October 8, we look back at some of James Bond’s most iconic wristwatches
1 Omega Seamaster Diver 300M
It’s been more than 50 years since the release of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and, to celebrate the anniversary, Omega unveiled a very special 42mm Seamaster Diver 300M in stainless steel, limited to 7,007 pieces. A ceramic dial depicts the view down the barrel, which famously opens the credit sequence of James Bond movies.
2 Rolex Submariner
In 2018, the Rolex Submariner from A Licence to Kill was offered at auction for an estimated US$80,000 to US$120,000. The 1989 picture, which starred Timothy Dalton in his final appearance as Bond, was also the last film in the series where the secret agent wore a Rolex.
3 Breitling Top Time
In Thunderball, Sean Connery switches his Rolex Submariner to a Breitling Top Time after Q, played by Desmond Llewelyn, gifts him the timepiece. “The sweep hand takes the radioactivity count,” said Q. “It’s waterproof, of course.” The watch was lost until 2013 when an eagle-eyed shopper bought the authentic prop for a mere US$35 at an English flea market. It was later auctioned for five figures.
4 Omega Seamaster
In The World is not Enough, Pierce Brosnan hunts down an EX-KGB agent-turnedterrorist who plans to detonate a nuclear device. Q designs an Omega Seamaster Diver 300M specially for the occasion, equipped with a strong light and miniature grappling hook that is attached to a 15 m microfilament strong enough to support 360 kg. Handy.
5 Seiko Ref 0674 5009
A Seiko graced the wrist of Roger Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me, which memorably delivers an important message to Bond via ticker tape that read: “007 TO REPORT TO HQ. IMMEDIATE. M”
