Grab co-founder and CEO Anthony Tan started the company with Tan Hooi Ling in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2012. The business partners had an eye on safer taxi rides in the country, signing on drivers that commuters could trust.

Their cab-hailing app, Myteksi, later relocated to Singapore after raising funds for regional expansion. It was rebranded as Grab in 2016, and today has grown to offer financial services, online payments and food delivery, on top of its core business of rides via private cars, taxi partners, shuttle buses, bikes and social carpooling. The firm, which operates in eight markets across Southeast Asia, is funded by 56 investors including blue-chip names such as Microsoft and Softbank, and is valued at nearly US$40 billion.

Tan’s grandfathe­r was Tan Yuet Foh, a Malaysian taxi driver who went on to found car dealership company Tan Chong Motor Holdings in 1957.

Lim Wai Mun is the founder and chief executive of Doctor Anywhere, a regional telehealth start-up that lets patients video consult with a Singapore-registered doctor, psychologi­st or counsellor via its app. The firm harnesses online and

offline platforms to offer health and wellness services to users, and has a network of 1,300 partner clinics and eight fully owned offline clinics.

Doctor Anywhere stores patients’ medical history, health reports and relevant documentat­ion in-app for convenienc­e. Medication can be delivered to their doorsteps in a matter of hours. Patients can also peruse health and wellness products and services on a dedicated marketplac­e as well as access the firm’s list of healthcare providers.

The firm, which currently operates in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippine­s, recently raised $88 million in a Series C funding round. Investors

included Asia Partners, Novo Holdings, Philips and OSK-SBI Partners, along with returning investors EDBI, Square Peg, IHH Healthcare, Kamet Capital and Pavilion Capital.

Lim previously worked at Temasek Holdings, where he helped to conceptual­ise and establish Pavilion Energy, a Singaporeb­ased liquefied natural gas company.

Yip Pin Xiu is a five-time Paralympic gold medallist and most notably, the winner of Singapore’s first Paralympic­s gold medal at the Beijing Games in 2008. The backstroke specialist suffers from muscular dystrophy, which has proved no obstacle in her quest to go for glory in her pet event. Her efforts were recognised by the Singapore government when she was conferred the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Meritoriou­s Service Medal) at the National Day Awards ceremony in 2008.

Yip most recently bagged two gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic­s in the S2 50 m and S2 100 m backstroke events, retaining the titles she had clinched four years prior at the 2016 Games in Rio. She also holds the world records for both events, which she set at the 2016 Games.

Yip contribute­s to the Safe Sport task force, the National Youth Council, the Purple Parade’s working committee, the World Para Swimming high support needs group and the Singapore Disability Sports Council executive committee. She also served as a nominated member of parliament from 2018 to 2020, addressing issues such as sports and inclusion, workplace harassment and sexual violence on campus.
