Ravi Menon has been managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) since 2011, overseeing the government body’s remit in managing the country’s official foreign reserves, enforcing monetary policy, supervising the financial sector and developing Singapore as a financial hub.
Menon joined the MAS in 1987, working on banking regulation and liberalisation, monetary policy and econometric forecasting, among other tasks. He was formerly permanent secretary at the Ministry of Trade and Industry and deputy secretary at the Ministry of Finance, where he was responsible for the government reserves and fiscal policy.
Menon has served on various boards in the private and public sectors, including those of the Housing & Development Board, Civil Service College, National Research Foundation, Singapore Cooperation Enterprise and DBS Bank.
