CHAIRMAN, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMEN­T BOARD

MEDICAL DOCTOR, CHIEF TRADE REPRESENTA­TIVE AND ADROIT MULTITASKE­R

Beh Swan Gin is chairman of the Singapore Economic Developmen­t Board (EDB), a post he assumed in December 2014. Beh steers the government agency, which is part of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, in its efforts to bolster the country’s position as an internatio­nal hub for business, innovation and talent.

He was formerly permanent secretary of the Ministry of Law, overseeing legal reforms and initiative­s. Before this, the trained medical doctor was managing director of EDB; he joined in 1992 and held various portfolios in his first spell there, including leading the developmen­t of Singapore’s biomedical sciences industry.

Beh was also executive director of the Biomedical Research Council at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, as well as director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s energy planning arm back in 2006 and 2007.

The Sloan Fellows with a master of science in management from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business also completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
