BEH SWAN GIN
CHAIRMAN, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD
MEDICAL DOCTOR, CHIEF TRADE REPRESENTATIVE AND ADROIT MULTITASKER
Beh Swan Gin is chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), a post he assumed in December 2014. Beh steers the government agency, which is part of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, in its efforts to bolster the country’s position as an international hub for business, innovation and talent.
He was formerly permanent secretary of the Ministry of Law, overseeing legal reforms and initiatives. Before this, the trained medical doctor was managing director of EDB; he joined in 1992 and held various portfolios in his first spell there, including leading the development of Singapore’s biomedical sciences industry.
Beh was also executive director of the Biomedical Research Council at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, as well as director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s energy planning arm back in 2006 and 2007.
