If there’s one thing Kim Kardashian West understands, it’s how to make the most of your figure. Well known for wearing super-sculpting bodywear that accentuates her curves, she designed her own line, Skims, in 2018. The brand has since expanded beyond shapewear and now includes underwear and loungewear. Skims is currently available in Asia exclusively at Lane Crawford in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Chengdu, while international delivery is available on its website. Tatler speaks to Kardashian West about her inspiration.

When did you realise that bodywear and shapewear were important to your style?

Shapewear has always been a really important part of styling for me, not only because it helps create a look under clothing, but also because it makes me feel confident and comfortable.

Which Skims item do you think everyone should own?

All of our shapewear is designed to give you various levels of targeted support, depending on your needs. For example, our Sculpting Bodysuit cinches your waist, enhances your butt and smooths your curves all at once, so it’s really a hero item for our customers. For underwear, I can’t live without our Fits Everybody underwear—it’s buttery soft and stretches to twice its size without ever losing shape.

You’ve had a very inspiring 2021 full of change; what lessons have you learned through the personal challenges that you’ve overcome?

I’ve learned that I’m so lucky to have an incredible support system that I can lean on when going through challenging times—my family and friends are my rocks, and they inspire and encourage me so much every day.

Tell us about how your style has evolved over the years—and what style advice you would give your younger self.

I’ve always loved fashion and when I was younger, I really enjoyed experimenting with different trends. Looking back at those old pictures now is so fun. Trying new things through the years helped me learn what works best for my body and what I feel most confident wearing—so I wouldn’t change any of it.
