Small Talk EDOUARD MEYLAN AND MARK CHO
Meylan’s new limited-edition H Moser & Cie Endeavour Small Seconds Total Eclipse, made in partnership with Cho’s menswear brand The Armoury, proves that black is well and truly back
Edouard, what was challenging about designing the Endeavour Small Seconds Total Eclipse? Combining Vantablack with the inner bezel and the sub-dial indexes. Vantablack is a very high-tech and complex material comprising carbon nanostructures, which makes it hard to work with, as it cannot come into contact with anything or it will be damaged. Mark and The Armoury forced us to push the boundaries of this technology.
Mark, of all the watch brands, why did you choose to work with H Moser & Cie?
H Moser & Cie has been making waves with its creations and attitude, and [I thought they] would be a really great partner to work with because of these reasons.
Edouard, what did The Armoury bring to the design process? Elegance and balance.
Why is it important that H Moser & Cie collaborates with other companies? They are sources of inspiration: they help us get a new perspective on our creations and explore new horizons. The watch industry is very self-centred and tends to use the same codes. Other industries help us use new codes and discover unexpected territories.
Mark, how would you describe H Moser & Cie? I liken H Moser & Cie to punk music. It’s bravely willing to go against conventional wisdom.
