The Big Day

It is a truth universally acknowledged that there are few things in life more stressful than examinations, job interviews and—perhaps the most nerve‑racking of them all—planning for one’s wedding.

While the big event itself is cause for joy and celebration, the journey from engagement to “I do” can be overwhelming for the couple. The prospect of planning the perfect celebration is undoubtedly thrilling but it also demands careful planning and a keen eye for detail. And this is something I, as a newly minted fiancée, can attest to.

A capable events partner can help take some—if not most—of the load off wedding prep for a more enjoyable ride to the aisle, and here is where The Ritz‑carlton, Millenia Singapore steps up. Besides versatile spaces—when it comes to momentous events such as one’s nuptials, few venues evoke a sense of grandeur and elegance quite like this luxury five‑star hotel with a legacy spanning nearly three decades—it offers the services of its wedding planning team, which takes care of all on‑site arrangements as well as acts as a liaison between the couple and the in‑house culinary and operations teams. Naturally, this makes The Ritz‑carlton, Millenia Singapore an obvious choice for my big day.

Planning a wedding usually entails multiple decision‑making— from curating a delicious dinner menu to picking the perfect shade of peonies. With Bethany Tan, the hotel’s senior wedding consultant, and Junya Rumjaroenchai, its director of catering, by my side, the process, I’m glad to say, proves more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Their meticulous attention to detail and commitment to perfection, not to mention their innate understanding of every couple’s unique love story, make for a surprisingly stress‑free wedding planning experience.

My brief to The Ritz‑carlton, Millenia Singapore is, well, brief, to say the least. I envision a regal, festive and intimate celebration

spanning two days, with the hallmarks of a vibrant Indian wedding: lively music and dance, lush floral decorations, and of course, a feast of North Indian delicacies. What impresses me most is how they run with my vision, coming up with creative recommendations that both embrace the cultural richness I seek and show inventive flair.

Of the four wedding venues in the hotel, Tan recommends the Junior Ballroom for the sangeet (a pre‑wedding celebration with music, dance, and performances by family and friends). A great option for more casual events, it offers an indoor‑outdoor feel, with windows on one side overlooking lush greenery. An intimate space that can comfortably host up to 120 people, it is the perfect setting for my guests to mix, mingle and dance.

For my main event, a wedding dinner for 500 guests, Tan suggests the Grand Ballroom. As its name suggests, the sprawling 1,085‑square‑metre space epitomises grandeur and luxury with its soaring ceiling, gold‑tone chandeliers, and state‑of‑the‑art panoramic LED video walls. As Tan assures me, the versatility of the Grand Ballroom makes for an enchanting backdrop; the perfect blank canvas for the elaborate set‑ups I envision, such as a long walkway draped with colourful fabric, and a grand centrepiece dais adorned with hundreds of roses, lanterns and a chandelier.

A sumptuous feast is an indispensable element of any Indian wedding and The Ritz‑carlton, Millenia Singapore is certainly up to the task of ensuring that my guests are well fed. Going beyond traditional North Indian dishes, Rumjaroenchai and her team propose a customised menu that skilfully blends classic Indian flavours with inventive twists—a creative fusion of Singaporean, Middle Eastern and vegetarian dishes such as mezze, Impossible seekh kebab and stuffed kueh pie tee that would cater to the diverse tastes of my wedding guests.

Weddings, as Tan and

Rumjaroenchai remind me, are ultimately a celebration of every couple’s love story, and it is this very reason that drives The Ritz‑carlton, Millenia Singapore to craft one‑of‑a‑kind celebrations, no matter what your dream wedding may look like.
