CapitaLand, SP Group and Sembcorp to study integrated energy solutions for data centres
CapitaLand, SP Group and Sembcorp Industries have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly study the use of integrated energy solutions, such as solar photovoltaic, green hydrogen and energy storage, for the purpose of powering data centres.
The first is CapitaLand’s flagship data centre at 9 Tai Seng Drive, which will be powered by green energy. The building already has a Platinum rating, the highest rating for sustainability under the Building & Construction Authority and Infocomm Media Development Authority.
“The ability to leverage smart energy solutions and tap renewable energy sources at our data centres will extend CapitaLand’s competitive advantage within the data centre industry while meeting our commitments towards global sustainability,” says Kelvin Fong, managing director, data centre, CapitaLand Group.
He adds that besides powering CapitaLand’s data centres with renewable energy, the developer also aims to use energy-efficient designs and facility operations. The technologies will potentially be applicable to other data centres in Singapore.
These efforts are in line with CapitaLand’s 2030 Sustainability Master Plan, which entails meeting targets such as reducing carbon emissions intensity by 78%, reducing its energy consumption at
its operating properties by 35% and increasing total electricity consumption from renewable sources by 35%, by 2030.
