Bathroom and beyond

Against the backdrop of a pandemic, hygiene is key. Bathroom design giant Geberit introduces thoughtful, functional design perfect for homes, offices and more

Owing to the pandemic, Geberit took its annual exhibition online for the first time this year. Over three days, the leading manufacturer of sanitary products presented its new innovations from the House of Geberit, a 300 sq m space built specially to showcase its latest designs.

Founded in Switzerland in 1874, the brand is a leader in its field in Europe and operates globally through its subsidiaries. By combining expertise in the fields of sanitary technology, design and innovative functions, Geberit opens up new possibilities in planning, designing and installing bathrooms.

With hygiene and safety at the forefront of post-pandemic design, Geberit believes a touchless experience will only grow in popularity. The Sigma80 and Sigma10 Actuator Plates use infrared sensors to activate flushing, without the need for a button.

The fully-touchless Sigma80 comes in two colour choices: Black Glass and Reflective Glass, and has racked up at least twice as many design awards, including the iF Product Design Award and the RedDot Design Award in 2012. The actuator plate also comes with LED lighting in five colours and a water-saving dual flush.

Meanwhile, the Sigma10 offers more customisation — with eight colour variants — the option of an additional mechanical flush and choice of power through electrical mains or battery operation.

The Sigma range also comes with additional perks: Geberit’s DuoFresh odour extraction and LED orientation light. The Geberit odour extraction unit removes unpleasant odours directly from the water closet ceramic appliance. It extracts the air through the flush pipe and flush valve, purifies it using a ceramic honeycomb filter and then returns it to the room.

The new Geberit odour extraction unit for toilets can be installed in all concealed cisterns from the Sigma range. Some existing toilet systems can also be retrofitted with the odour extraction unit.

The built-in orientation light also offers gentle illumination. Just below the actuator plate a soft glow will guide you the way to the washroom — perfect for late night use. The light is controlled by a proximity sensor, which ensures that the air extraction and orientation light are automatically switched on and off. The settings of the proximity sensor can be personalised via Geberit’s mobile app.

On to showers, Geberit offers drainage solutions that complement the design of your bathroom. Geberit’s CleanLine shower channel series combines aesthetics with ease of cleaning.

Unlike many other conventional shower channels, the open outlet surface ensures that neither dirt nor bacteria is able to accumulate. With a comb-shaped insert, the shower channel is easy and convenient to open for regular cleaning.

The shower channel can also be cut to the desired length. The Geberit shower channels CleanLine20 and CleanLine60 are available in stainless steel brushed with polished or dark drain sides, while the Geberit shower channel CleanLine80 is available in stainless steel with champagne, black chrome and stainless-steel surface variants.

For an even more streamlined look, the Geberit wall drain for showers clears the way for a barrier-free bathroom. By moving the drain from the floor to behind the wall, you can preserve the complete tiled appearance of a floor-even shower.

For that, Geberit recommends the new Setaplano shower surface. Unlike metal, glass or ceramic, the non-slip surface material is both pleasantly warm and silky-smooth to the touch.

For all the time we spend in front of the bathroom mirror, a good washbasin accentuates an elegant bathroom. The new, sleek Geberit Selnova Square wash basins combine a clear rectangular design with an organically shaped inner basin. They form a perfect unit with their washbasin cabinets and matching bathroom furniture in white high-gloss coated surfaces.

Clean lines and gentle chamfering are the key features of Selnova bathroom furniture. The washbasins taper downwards to join with the cabinet’s underneath. This enhances the slim, lightweight appearance of the Selnova bathroom series. The integrated, delicately curving profile handles mimic the curves formed by the fronts of the washbasins, emphasising lightness.

Wall-hung or floor-standing, the furniture comes with the choice of chrome feet or skirting boards. Modular side cabinets are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. The furniture is delivered fully pre-assembled, with the option of attaching the door hinge on either side.
