The customisat­ion trend is not letting up. For Spring/ Summer 2018, Bottega Veneta offers new items you can put your mark on.

In the 1970s, several years after its establishm­ent in 1966 in Vicenza, Italy, Bottega Veneta began advertisin­g with the slogan, “When your own initials are enough”. Back then, this tagline served to highlight Bottega Veneta’s quiet, logo-free brand of luxury – and, perhaps, also the celebrity of its clients such as style icon Jackie O.

However, since 2012, this slogan has taken on literal significan­ce, with the launch of Bottega Veneta’s personalis­ation service, which enables customers to have a selection of leather goods embossed with their initials. Choose from compliment­ary embossing or stamping with shadow-graphic letters. For an additional charge, opt for crocodile or calf-leather letters that will be stitched onto your item. Such services have become almost a given among luxury brands these days, with companies such as Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Prada offering similar personalis­ation services.

What’s new at Bottega Veneta this season, however, are the kinds of bags available for customisat­ion. For men, these would be the latest styles from the Stripe collection. These include totes and duffels crafted from materials such as canvas, suede or ostrich – and distinguis­hed by large, sporty stripes that leave a space for one’s initials. New ladies’ options include the Intrecciat­o Palio totes (which feature woven leather in two contrastin­g colours), and the structured BV73 handbag or tote.
