01 SHINE ON
Add a little brilliance to your collection, with Roger Dubuis’ new Excalibur watches.
If Roger Dubuis’ new Excalibur models are anything to go by, its SIHH 2019 collections are going to be blinding. The brand has unveiled two novelties ahead of the fair, and they are shining examples of how the watchmaker is staying true to the path of innovation.
A firm believer in women appreciating the mechanical arts, Roger Dubuis is giving them the Excalibur Shooting Stars. The charming aesthetics and demure size are typical hallmarks of a feminine watch, but this one took two years of research and development to realise, thanks to its movement. The Excalibur Shooting Stars’ flying tourbillon, based on the X42 single tourbillon, has been miniaturised to fit into its 36mm case, making it one of the smallest of its kind around. A generous sprinkling of diamonds in and around the watch face and colour-coordinated enamel stars make this timepiece quite the showstopper.
It’s available in three interpretations: blue and white gold with a blue PVD-treated background, white and pink gold with a mother-of-pearl background, and pink and pink gold with a translucent varnished background. Each is limited to eight pieces.
Not one to discriminate, Roger Dubuis also has plenty of sparkle left for the gentlemen. At 45mm, the Excalibur Spider Ultimate Carbon is big, and its presence is amplified by the use of carbon composite on the case, movement bridges and bracelet, with 195 baguette-cut diamonds covering nearly all of that. Diamonds on the carbon composite tourbillon is also a world-first combination – and, probably luckily for its owner, the lightness of carbon composite, skeletonised lugs and case band, and openwork dial help to offset the weight of all that ice.
