BURNING DESIRES

OTHER LABELS LOOKING TO INFUSE YOUR SPACE WITH THEIR SCENTS.

01 LOEWE: CUCUMBER

The clean, invigorating scent of cucumber characterises the latest addition to Loewe’s popular room candles. It was developed in collaboration with perfumer Nuria Cruelles and global brand ambassador and Chinese actor Leo Wu.

Like Loewe’s other picturesque candles, this one comes in an artsy glazed terracotta vessel, which in this case has been painted a cheerful pale green. Featuring images created by French artist and photographer Erwan Frotin, even the cardboard box the candle is packaged in is visually striking.

02 DIOR: TOILE DE JOUY

Pretty up the scent and look of your home with the latest room candles by Dior. The collection features the sweet scent of hydrangea, accompanied by fresh notes of citrus and moss. They come in mouth-blown glass jars silkscreened by hand.

Available in blue, red or grey, the holders are decked out with the house’s popular Toile De Jouy design — creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s reinterpretation of the naturalistic motif that once decorated the interiors of Christian Dior’s first boutique.

03 BALENCIAGA: BALENCIAGA CANDLE

Fans of the late couturier Cristobal Balenciaga can now enter his olfactory universe. In a chic, mirror-polished holder, the Balenciaga Candle’s scent was created by artist and scientist Sissel Tolaas, using “olfactory recordings” of the house’s recently reopened couture salon on 10 Avenue George V. Devices were used to extract molecules from the salon’s walls, as well as pieces from the brand’s archive and items that once belonged to Balenciaga himself. The final product is a heady combination of notes such as burnt incense, tobacco smoke, old paper, tanned leather, furs, and silks.
