A ‘LAND BRIDGE’ ACROSS THE PENINSULA

The Straits Times - - TOPOF THE NEWS -

The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) was meant to be a fast train line linking Tumpat, in the east coast state of Kelantan, to Malaysia’s main shipping hub Port Klang in Selangor. At its ground-breaking ceremony in August last year, the 688km line was touted as a “land bridge” connecting the South China Sea with the Strait of Malacca, allowing shipments to bypass Singapore. Originally slated for completion in 2024, it would have passed through Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang to reach Selangor in under four hours.
