A feast fit for the gods
The fifth edition of Marina Bay Sands’ Epicurean Market promises the full gourmet experience – think celebrity chefs, master classes and more. By Mia Chenyze
GO BIG ON NOSTALGIA
Like, literally. Because Epicurean Market has erected a reproduction of a traditional shophouse, right inside the hall, to house a smorgasbord of local favourites.
In it, RISE, the resort’s buffet restaurant, whips up dishes that are either strictly traditional or updated for the modern palate. Teochew png kueh and ice kachang balls fill the ‘heritage’ end of the spectrum, while the likes of wagyu beef cheek rendang present twists on classics.
GET JUICED UP
The heritage theme continues at the Kampung Bar, where a cadre of bartenders are shaking up hawker fare-inspired tipples. It’s not the only cocktail bar at this year’s market – Diageo’s roping in its award-winning bartenders to helm the World Class Bar, too.
TRY NEW RESTAURANTS
Be the first to sample the nosh at Lavo, an upcoming multiconcept space – it’s gonna be an Italian restaurant, lounge and club rolled into one – that’s soon arriving on our shores from New York City.
STOCK UP THE PANTRY
Stop at the Farmer’s Market and heap your basket with fresh produce and gourmet goods sourced from all over the world. Expect nothing less than a gorgeous array of heirloom fruits and veggies, seafood, and cheese and charcuterie.
Get classy with the Connoisseur Series, a series of wine and spirits tastings led by experts. Sign up for the Japanese Single Malts session ($188) and learn more about the nation’s distillation history while getting acquainted with rare malts.
Channel all your booze-fuelled energy to the dancefloor when the lights turn low and the music shifts to slick party vibes. Once the sun sets and the stalls shutter for the day, a line-up of international DJs is taking the stage. And don’t worry about hunger pangs or your inebriation wearing off, because there’ll be supper and cocktails to sort you out.
Epicurean Market is at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre from Aug 11-13. $39 for a three-day pass that includes a complimentary signature dish worth $15, and access to master classes and late-night festivities.
