A feast fit for the gods

The fifth edi­tion of Ma­rina Bay Sands’ Epicurean Mar­ket prom­ises the full gourmet ex­pe­ri­ence – think celebrity chefs, mas­ter classes and more. By Mia Chenyze

GO BIG ON NOS­TAL­GIA

Like, lit­er­ally. Be­cause Epicurean Mar­ket has erected a re­pro­duc­tion of a tra­di­tional shophouse, right in­side the hall, to house a smor­gas­bord of lo­cal favourites.

In it, RISE, the re­sort’s buf­fet res­tau­rant, whips up dishes that are ei­ther strictly tra­di­tional or up­dated for the mod­ern palate. Teochew png kueh and ice kachang balls fill the ‘her­itage’ end of the spec­trum, while the likes of wagyu beef cheek ren­dang present twists on clas­sics.

GET JUICED UP

The her­itage theme con­tin­ues at the Kam­pung Bar, where a cadre of bar­tenders are shak­ing up hawker fare-in­spired tip­ples. It’s not the only cock­tail bar at this year’s mar­ket – Di­a­geo’s rop­ing in its award-win­ning bar­tenders to helm the World Class Bar, too.

TRY NEW RESTAU­RANTS

Be the first to sam­ple the nosh at Lavo, an up­com­ing mul­ti­con­cept space – it’s gonna be an Italian res­tau­rant, lounge and club rolled into one – that’s soon ar­riv­ing on our shores from New York City.

STOCK UP THE PANTRY

Stop at the Farmer’s Mar­ket and heap your bas­ket with fresh pro­duce and gourmet goods sourced from all over the world. Ex­pect noth­ing less than a gor­geous ar­ray of heir­loom fruits and veg­gies, seafood, and cheese and char­cu­terie.

EL­E­GANT SIPS

Get classy with the Con­nois­seur Se­ries, a se­ries of wine and spir­its tast­ings led by ex­perts. Sign up for the Ja­panese Sin­gle Malts ses­sion ($188) and learn more about the na­tion’s dis­til­la­tion his­tory while get­ting ac­quainted with rare malts.

LATE-NIGHT MAY­HEM

Chan­nel all your booze-fu­elled en­ergy to the dance­floor when the lights turn low and the mu­sic shifts to slick party vibes. Once the sun sets and the stalls shut­ter for the day, a line-up of in­ter­na­tional DJs is tak­ing the stage. And don’t worry about hunger pangs or your ine­bri­a­tion wear­ing off, be­cause there’ll be sup­per and cock­tails to sort you out.

Epicurean Mar­ket is at the Sands Expo and Con­ven­tion Cen­tre from Aug 11-13. $39 for a three-day pass that in­cludes a com­pli­men­tary sig­na­ture dish worth $15, and ac­cess to mas­ter classes and late-night fes­tiv­i­ties.
