A WORD PROCESSOR
My “car-reer” as a full-time motoring correspondent (after three years as a freelancer who got a big break) started in 1995, so this year would be my 22nd in the motoring media industry.
I think my editorial power output in those 2.2 decades, as I worked/wrote my way up from writer to editor and drove some people up the tyre wall, was decent. More than 200 periodicals and booklets, a few million printed words (along with a zillion misprints), many thousands of semi-professional photographs with cars and car parts in them, a few hundred nuggets of automotive wisdom, and countless behind-the-wheel wisecracks which ranged from the humorous to the horrendous.
What’s really terrible is how 264 months zoomed past me like an F1 racecar doing a qualifying lap. One minute I’m a spring chicken in a coop that looks like a cubicle, and the next minute I’m an old bird in a coupe that doesn’t look like a cubicle at all.
Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy reading all the processed words in this issue.
