Jellyfish Lake consists of several layers of water that do not mix. The upper part of the lake contains ‘common’ sea water. In the middle, there is a thick layer of bacteria in it, including the purplephotosynthetic sulfur bacteria. Finally, at the bottom of the lake, there is no oxygen present, which also means no life is present.
