The braai is South Africa’s bar­be­cue, an un­abashed meat fest cooked over a large wood fire, prefer­ably in some­one’s back­yard. Ex­pect lots of beef, prefer­ably grass-fed, sausages or boer­wores, lamb, chicken piri-piri and game meats, grilled sweet corn, potato bakes, braai brood­jies or sand­wiches, all washed down with lo­cal wine.
