You don’t have to wait for hours to de­frost that frozen block of but­ter; nor do you have to mi­crowave it in or­der to soften it. For an easy way to get soft, spread­able but­ter, grate the block with a cheese grater or place it be­tween two sheets of plas­tic and flat­ten out with a rolling pin.
