As automatic watches gained in popularity in the mid-1960s, it was imperative that TAG Heuer (then Heuer) made an automatic chronograph movement to keep up. In a bid to one-up its competition who were planning similar releases, Jack Heuer surreptitiously secured an exclusive case design from supplier Piquerez that eventually became the Monaco. The square case, with crown on the left and pushers on the right, is now emblematic of this line. ($8,100)
