The latest addition to the Laureato family, the Laureato Skeleton features a skeleton movement and 42mm-diameter, 10.88mm-thick case, available in stainless steel or 18K pink gold. The skeletonised calibre GP01800-0006 forms intricate mechanical lace motifs and its balance is ensconced in an elegantly filigree-worked metal structure at 12 o’clock. The precision of this model is further reinforced — for the first time in a GP1800 movement — by the use of a variable-inertia balance, which drives the hours, minutes and seconds in an open-worked interpretation. The bridges and mainplate are replaced by an alternation between the structural framework and inhabitable spaces, much like the ornate interiors of a baroque-style Italian cathedral. Think the horological version of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
