BEST FOR Delicious, value-for-money food and a slightly posh vibe. FOOD Led by chef Zane Figueiredo, the kitchen at Wood & Fire produces food that is contempora­ry and fun. Winner of the steakhouse category for Gauteng at the 2018 Best Everyday Eateries, this is no ordinary steakhouse. Start with mushroom and parmesan, shabu-shabu, tempura prawns, romesco calamari, or pork belly with miso-caramel cream, spiced pickled apples, gremolata and chicharrón­s. For mains, try a tomahawk done in the wood-fired oven with chimichurr­i and miso-truffle butter, and superb aubergine teriyaki. The porcini and chocolate ‘Sweetie Pie’ shows the chef’s dexterity with unusual flavour combinatio­ns. DRINKS A nicely balanced wine list, plus cocktails. SERVICE Could be sharper.
