OLD MILL RESTAURANT

BEST FOR Road-trip lunches with the whole family in tow. FOOD Uncomplicated country cuisine is the selling point here, with a diverse selection of dishes that will keep most diners happy. Lunches run to dependable chicken pie and beef burgers, while hungrier travellers are well taken care of by sizeable prime cuts. Traditional bobotie, seasonal waterblommetjie bredie and springbok pie are highlights. There's a small kids’ menu on offer too. To finish, try one of the delicious Flemish pancakes, a nod to the owner’s Belgian roots. DRINKS A limited wine list sourced from just a handful of Breede River valley estates. Excellent choice of Belgian beers and local craft gin on offer. Good milkshakes for the kids. SERVICE Efficient, but not much country hospitality on display. AMBIENCE On sunny days the shady terrace tables are sublime, while in winter the traditional dining room with its fireplace is your best bet. (RH)
