SPAR, Sabi Sand Wildtuin celebrate the essentials
MBOMBELA - Apostle Peter
Jones, the Sabi Sand Wildtuin’s brand ambassador for community projects, invited SPAR Lowveld Distribution Centre (DC) and Sabi Sand Wildtuin to be part of a new campaign called Celebrate the Essentials.
“Who appreciates the work that petrol attendants, police, and caregivers at home-based care centres do?”
That was the opening outcry that Jones shared with SPAR Lowveld DC and Sabi Sand Wildtuin. They all came together with the aim of spreading some hope to local essential workers by committing to a full day of dropping off special SPAR branded T-shirts to them all.
Doctor Nkosi of the Total Garage in Mbombela said they were extremely thankful for the fact that Jones had thought of them.
“It is rare to have companies focus on appreciating us right now. Many consumers are anxious and worried about their own safety and have forgotten that even as petrol attendants, we, too, are here risking our lives to make sure that they are safe.”
The SPAR Lowveld DC managed to donate over 200 branded T-shirts.
One of the stops included the
White River Police Station. Station commander BH Masuku said, “I was not expecting to receive any form of donations for my staff members right now.
“When people approach us, they are the ones requesting assistance. They see us as police officers who have it all in order. They do not know that our own staff are also putting themselves in danger by trying their best to keep everyone safe. Seeing this really spread so much hope in my team.”
The campaign aims to offer a genuine reminder to all essential workers that they are valued and appreciated during this tough time. With the help of sponsors and partners like SPAR Lowveld DC and Sabi
Sand Wildtuin, many have felt the appreciation from the locals.
Jones said he just wants to honour those who are on the front lines. “Even if they are not medical staff. We have not forgotten about you all and we see your efforts. When someone knows that their own life is at stake, yet they wake up and use public transport to ensure that we are all taken care of - then we need to surely celebrate them.”
This was the first phase of their campaign and they are looking for more sponsors who want to be a part of this initiative.
