What the DA says
The DA has written to the executive director of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate to request an urgent investigation into videos that have emerged of a group of men assaulting a man at the White River Police Station, said Andrew Whitfield, DA shadow minister of police.
He said the DA has also written to the national police commissioner, Gen Kehla Sitole, requesting an urgent investigation to identify and arrest this violent gang and to determine whether they have any connections to the SAPS. The commissioner was also requested to launch an internal investigation into the lack of action by SAPS members, their refusal to open a case, as well as the poor security at the police station.
“The DA strongly condemns this violence and the lack of action by the police against the clear display of thuggery and violence,” Whitfield said.
