Penreach distributes the written word on World Book Day

- Ciska Smit

MBOMBELA - Penreach, through its Asifundze Numeracy and Literacy Programme, embarked on a drive to celebrate this year’s World Book Day earlier this month, under the international theme “Share a Story”.

World Book Day is a United Nations initiative to honour and commemorate the importance of books and copyright thereof. The drive was held to distribute more than 3 000 age-appropriate and culturally relevant books to foundation phase learners aged six to nine.

The result was a series of events during which Penreach Change Agents engaged children through storytelling, reading aloud, shared reading and library tours around KaBokweni, Pienaar, Hectorspruit and Nkomazi schools.

The community can still take part in the ongoing book drive of the #ReadingRevolution by Penreach’s Literacy Intervention.

The public are invited to buy in-house-produced readers at R6 a copy or donate any amount, and the books will be donated on your behalf.

The book drive saw Penreach Asifundze Programme manager, Ronald Chanetsa, appear in an interview on a World Book Day feature on eNCA.
