R40 traffic lights most prone to be knocked down in road incidents

- Chelsea Pieterse

MBOMBELA - With at least three traffic lights in the city knocked down per month, it appears the most of these incidents occur on the R40.

Andries Oosthuizen, the Mbombela superintendent, traffic technical, told Lowvelder that on average around two to three traffic lights are knocked down per month, but that these numbers vary from month to month.

Oosthuizen said three traffic lights are currently down within Mbombela, which includes two in Riverside and one in White River.

He said, depending on the type of pole damaged, repairs and replacement of these can cost between R20 000 and

R80 000.

Oosthuizen added that the poles are mainly knocked down at night and that both heavy and light motor vehicles drive into them.
