Bikers bring their best Enduro
Matthew Lombardi was the overall and elite winner of the 2021 Mpumalanga Enduro Trailworx SA Nelspruit.
The race route covered 30 kilometres with an elevation of 1 300 metres and mountain bikers were timed on five special stages on the route.
Lombardi was in fine form and clocked 11 minutes and 4,4 seconds to beat Jason Boulle (11:08,2) by 19,3 seconds.
The winner held a three-second lead over Boulle after the first timed stage. This increased to 4,3 seconds after the second.
Lombardi was on fire on the third stage, clocking 2:47,0 seconds to Boulle’s 2:57,5 top lead by 14,8 seconds.
This lead was increased to 19,3 seconds over the final two stages.
Sam Bull was third with a total race time of 11:8,2.
Zandri Strydom obliterated the timed stages to win the women’s elite category in 12:36,6.
Nande Hattingh was second in 20:18,6. Seventy-six entries were received and there were 72 finishers.
