Father’s Day event at Sonpark postponed to August 8

-

What was supposed to be a Fathers’ Day event had to be postponed as a result of newly announced Covid-19 restrictions.

But don’t despair. You will still be able to attend this fun event on August 8, not even a full two months later.

Covid-19 has everyone nervous and on edge, therefore sanitising stations will be available and all visitors will receive a mask on arrival.

The organisers of “Dads and their Toys” promise that the entertainment and other attractions will most certainly leave the whole family feeling totally spoiled and entertained at the end of the day. The 70+ stalls, all hyperlocal suppliers of authentic handmade goodies, will generate tonnes of oohs and aahs. On sale will be knives, radio control (RC) cars, clothing and much, much more. A poker run has been organised for all those car enthusiasts who will, once done, park their classic, modern and oh-so exotic cars in the exhibition area for you to admire. There will be Mustangs, a rare Bullet among them, Shelbys, some local vroom-vroom models, classic wonders and some bikes on display. And last but not least, two Peterborough heavy duty commercial trucks. Imagine the expression on the small faces when they see these! Some dads, I think, will also have these expressions! The RC enthusiasts will build a track across eight parking bays where they will demonstrate and race various models and derivatives of cars and brands. Monkeynastix, the child care specialists, will convert a large underground parking area where you can leave your little ones to be entertained. It will be safe and manned by trained and qualified caretakers. Entry is free and please, do come hungry. Que’s Cafe promised to be totally radical and lavish with pap and kaiings, traditional curry and rice and more. Wynand and Chereé Strydom will be on stage to entertain visitors with Afrikaans and country music while you browse the stalls and max the credit cards.

There will be a raffle and one lucky visitor will win a weekend getaway to Marloth Park. All proceeds from the event will be donated to CANSA and Huis Betlehem. The entry fee for both cars and bikes are R150 and R120 respectively.

The event will be alive with music, a beer tent and lots of street-style foods. We would appreciate your presence and trust we will exceed your expectations. Where? Sonpark, August 8 from 10:00 till 16:00. Enquiries: Wessel Strydom on 071 683 9411.
