Bakkie crash leaves residents powerless
A bakkie crashed into a mini substation in Banket Street in West Acres on Friday afternoon, August 12. The accident resulted in a power outage in parts of West Acres.
The City of Mbombela’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said the municipality’s energy department isolated the mini sub and worked on temporarily connecting consumers so they had power overnight while the City sourced materials for the repairs. The next morning, August 13, he said the City switched off the power in order to replace the mini sub and then started reconnecting its customers. He said the City has since submitted an insurance claim on the incident and said it is up to the insurance company to pursue other matters against the driver or any other party involved.
