MBOMBELA - Over 60 units of blood was drawn in aid of the Bleedathon held at the Eagle’s View Play Park on Sunday September 11.

While the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) set up their tents and stretchers, ready to accept the donors for the day, several locals set up their food and crafts stalls.

Several local businesses and organisations did their part to support the Bleedathon by competing against one another to win the title of the company who gathered the most donors.

People were able to support this good cause by donating blood, while also helping small businesses by purchasing the delicious pancakes, dried fruits, doughnuts and even handmade resin crafts, handbags and pillows on sale.

Event organiser Ista van Zyl said the winners of the day was Provincial Mpumalanga MS, which had a total of 26 donors. In second place was Divergent Ops with 18 donors.

“Divergent Ops and Mpumalanga Provincial MS were the stars of the day and they challenged each other right to the end,” said Van Zyl.

A total of 66 units were collected.

“It was a good day and the event was well attended overall. Thank you to everyone who came to support the Bleedathon,” she said.
