MBOMBELA - A Shandon Estate resident and her teenage daughter were allegedly robbed by a man wielding a panga in the early hours of September 29.

It was reported that the robber had allegedly tested the alarms of other houses in the vicinity that morning and found theirs non-functional.

The suspect allegedly tied the mother and daughter up and fled the house with two TVs, a laptop and two cellphones.

The TVs were later recovered on the estate, however.

The mother and daughter were not physically harmed during the incident.

The Shandon Estate board of directors said in a statement to Lowvelder they are relieved to confirm that no one was injured in the incident.

“The matter was reported to the police. They are prioritising this investigation and are working in conjunction with our own in-house security team in order to solve this matter,” said the board.

“You can well imagine that this incident is of great concern to the directors as well as the homeowners of Shandon Estate. The board has in the past urged all residents to install security alarms and to take care that they are activated as necessary.”

Nelspruit Police Station's spokesperson, Captain Zandile Gqawa, confirmed a case of house robbery had been opened.

She said no arrests had been made at this stage, and that investigations into the incident were ongoing.
