Help 27-year-old get hip replacement
MBOMBELA - Prior to 2016, Fortunate Jadile, only 27, had no mobility problems.
She now has to move around on crutches and is in constant pain.
She has developed a condition called avascular necrosis of her right femur, which causes the bone to die and crumble.
Jadile said she started having pains in her right leg after she gave birth to her daughter in 2016.
“I thought the pain would end, but my right leg kept on being so hard to move around. In 2020, I went to the hospital, and the doctor confirmed with an X-ray that my right femur was dying and crumbling.”
As a result, the hip joint is collapsing, which causes severe pain and decreased mobility. The only treatment for her is surgery to do a hip replacement.
She said the waiting period at the hospital
can be up to 10 years.
With the help of a local doctor, Karen Steyn, they got approval for the surgery to be performed at Busamed Lowveld Private Hospital, but they need to raise R40 000 to pay for the prosthesis, medication and rehabilitation. The accommodation in the hospital and the theatre time are free. The doctors who will be treating her are also offering their services free of charge.
“We ask for any form of assistance to make it possible for Fortunate to receive this new hip, which will also give her a new life. With the procedure done, she can recover completely and will again be able to live a normal life, being able to work and care for her child,” said Steyn.
She said they have already managed to raise R10 000, so they are still in need of R30 000 more.
Any donations will be managed by Jannie Potgieter Attorneys, who will make payments to the various service providers.
