Premier reshuffles cabinet
MBOMBELA - Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane has fired Vusi
Mkhatshwa and Mohita Latchminarain from her provincial cabinet.
Mkhatshwa served as the political head for the Department of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, while Latchminarain headed the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport.
Mkhatshwa, who had just been given the nod to take up his place on the ANC’s National Executive Committee at its elective conference scheduled for December, was replaced by Nompumelelo Hlophe.
Taking over from Latchminarain is
Mandla Ndlovu, who is also the current ANC provincial chairperson.
Mtshweni-Tsipane brought back the former agriculture MEC, Mandla Msibi, who had stepped aside from both party and governmental responsibility pending his charges, which were recently struck off the court’s roll.
When making these changes, MtshweniTsipane said, “As part of my government’s efforts to advance and expedite service delivery, today I am announcing measures that will bring rapid advancement in the improvement of the lives of our people in Mpumalanga. These changes to the composition of the provincial cabinet are necessitated by our desire to attain the targets we had set for this medium-term strategic framework, while accelerating the implementation of our economic reconstruction and recovery plan and the overall implementation of the key deliverables as set out in the national development plan as well as the Mpumalanga development plan.”
Both Msibi and Hlophe come with vast experience, having served in the public service, as both had stints in local and provincial government spheres.
Until recently, Hlophe was chairperson of a Legislature committee.
Msibi served as council speaker for the City of Mbombela before he was promoted to the provincial cabinet.
“I have no doubt that MEC Msibi will put more impetus in our efforts as government to help municipalities deliver on their service delivery mandate,” said Mtshweni-Tsipane.
